Hello, community,
Many of you who have read the book ask how our family is doing today.
For me, writing God Is Not Brazilian was much more than just reliving what happened. Each chapter was a dive into deep waters, a return to places of fear and uncertainty that I would rather forget. There were days when the words got stuck, caught in my throat, too heavy to be written.
But at the same time, for every moment of pain, there was a wave of healing. The intensity of the pain in revisiting the story was proportional to the immense gratitude of being able to look at it from the other side of the shore, on solid ground. It was proof that wounds, when exposed to the light of God’s grace, can indeed heal.
Of course, a lot has changed in 20+ years. The young man I was, full of doubts and fears, could hardly have dreamed of the peace I feel today as I put my daughter to sleep in a safe home. Back then, our focus was just on surviving the next day. I believe none of us could have imagined how generous God would be in everything He did for us, turning our greatest shame into a testament to His faithfulness.
For me, this photo is a milestone. It is a constant reminder that God’s plans are greater and that His goodness reaches us even when we walk through dark valleys. The journey was arduous, but the view from here is worth every step.
